Should Saddam Hussein hang ..given that he is a heinous monster and is likely to claim martyrdom which would suit the Sunni Muslims who want his return to power, and his BA'TH party is trying to regain power in Iraq..should the bastard hang. Or is this a victory execution or maybe an attempt by britain and the usa who supported and armed Saddam against Iran, to cleanse their conscience.

Well as a free person, who wishes that all people around the world have as much freedom as I do because I'm not a hypocrite, it is my belief that every dictator deserves to be got rid of, so death to Saddam, death to the guy in North Korea, death to Mugabe, death to the president of: Belarus, Cuba, China, Turkmanistan, and Sudan. Death to the dictatorial rulers of the Arab world too, and death to everybody else who wishes tyranny on people who have never harmed anybody.

hmmm, so death to George Bush too?
you apply your philosophy to some, you must apply it to all.
I do not believe he should hang, i believe he should be kept in prison for life, as the consequences of him hanging are greater than those if he is imprisoned.
I believe this is similar in a way to the Nuremburg trials. many people died in the nuremburg trials who shouldn't have.

I agree that he shouldn't hang because hanging him would make him a martyr, as Goblin says. However, life in prison would be respectable, maybe in Israel.

difficult one. I actually think that we as the west shouldn't have a say in the matter. We have gone into iraq, overthrown its dictator, handed him back to his people, and now it should be up to his people to decide his fate.

In most muslem countries the penalty for murder is death, so to allow him to escape that would show him to be a cut above the rest.

I also think that by allowing him to stay in jail for the rest of his life would probably mean he would end up committing suecide and thus he would decide his own fate - his fate should be decided by his people.

There are those who advocate the trial of bush and blair for war crimes, personally I couldn't agree more. Bob I like your idea, but Israel is no innocent,as the traumatised relatives of 81 victims of a rogue Israeli attack will testify.

Bush was democratically elected, hasn't committed genocide against his own people, hasn't ordered certain sections of the population to be massacred etc. He isn't a dictator. The countries I listed in my previous posts are ruled by dictators. The Nazis deserved to hang, because they'd killed 6 million Jews who didn't deserve to die. In fact, all fascists whether they be from white groups such as the KKK in the US or BNP in the UK, or fascist parties across Europe and the world, or whether they be Islamic extremist groups and yes all those groups are fascists, must all be exterminated and until this happens, there cannot be an end to the war on terror which culminates in tghe victory of free peoples.

Bush was democratically elected? That's debatable really for his second time around, and we know that's a lie for his first time!! When was the US supreme court the voice of our democracy?

As for Saddam... I find it funny that the announcement of his sentence came two days before a relatively major US election. I also find it funny that the calendar of events-- witness testamonies, sentencing, etc, was made up by the US people and delivered to the Iraqis "in charge" of the trial.

Think on that...

hmm, hittler was democratically elected to.
also, many nazi's were following orders, simply to save their own lives or that of their families.

No they fully believed in their right to murder 6 million vermin as the jews were referred to. Himmler was a spineless worm, who would have happily justified the slaughter of Jews ect, with far worse than I vas only following orders. Tyr I agree it was little more than a show trial with american interference at every turn Saddam is a monster, but surely even a monster deserves a fair trial in the new democratic Iraq.
